About Me
I believe as a psychotherapist that it's your wish to lead a fulfilling life where you can achieve your optimum potential. However, life can be difficult, problems and toxic relationships with others can inhibit our growth, preventing us from achieving our goals and often leaving us feeling estranged from our ‘self’. We can lose sight of our core values and this is when we feel at our most distressed.
I have faced many challenges in my personal and professional life and I have found psychotherapy to be a great support in working through these challenges, enabling me to re-connect with my inner self. I can offer you the opportunity to explore your ‘actions and reactions’ to situations in your life, so you gain a deeper understanding of your ‘self’.
I am a National Counselling Society registered psychotherapist. I hold a Master’s Degree in Person- Centred Experiential Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Nottingham. This enabled me to develop the necessary skills and expertise needed in offering you warmth and empathy, which will help build a trusting relationship where you can safely explore your concerns.
Before training as a psychotherapist I worked as secondary school teacher (Drama, Performing Arts and English). My in-depth understanding of the impact that school and education can have on staff, students and their families can help you explore and understand your anxieties and fears in this area of your life. Whatever your profession I can offer you a safe environment to explore your concerns.
My Approach
I work with young people (14+) and adults from a humanistic person-centred orientation. My approach is non-directive and non- diagnostic.
I will offer you a safe and confidential environment where together we can build a trusting therapeutic relationship. I will be alongside you as you explore your problems and through my non-judgemental attitude I will help you understand your feelings and emotions. I will listen carefully to your needs and respond with empathy. This may sound simple but it in life it is not often that we are truly heard and listened too. When I listen to you and hear your concerns it will allow you to feel truly valued as an individual. My responses may sometimes be challenging as I need to understand your problems from your perspective. This will benefit you as you gain a deeper understanding of your behaviours and the feelings aroused within you. I will accept all aspects of you, regardless of what you share with me.
